It's strange that people might still want to own shiny silver disks with images somehow trapped on them.

>>In short, the drive to move to Blu-Ray, with my strongest apologies to Bruce, is completely led by the studios — who are looking to give consumers a reason to re-purchase all of their already purchased content.

Bingo. I was pining for years for downloadable content. Netflix on demand in high def for a flat monthly fee. Now I have this, courtesy of the partnerships between Netflix, xBox 360 and TiVo.

Unfortunately, the rate of conversion of content to streaming is arduously slow. That and there are a number of other issues. No CC. Navigating is very slow and clunky. No commentary tracks / extras. Yeah, I am never happy but I think we are on the right track here.

Get rid of the physical media. We don't need it. If I want to see a film again I will stream it again.

I'm seeing more and more Blu-ray titles at the store, but not very many people buying them. I really hope the studios don't stop producing DVDs to try to force me to buy a Blu-ray player.

Over and over again, I find myself standing in front of the Blu-ray shelves at Best Buy or Target, then leaving empty handed. I'll pause slightly when a title is on sale, then usually pass it up when I realize A) the movie really isn't worth seeing again or B) the Blu-ray extras are no better (or sometimes worse!) than the DVD extras (e.g. Memento). My Blu-ray experience will be primarily rentals for the foreseeable future.
